“Darfur isn’t strategic important”

European Youth Press: What do you know about the Darfur conflict?

Max: There was the civil war in the South of Darfur a few years ago. And I think, there was also a crisis between the Muslims and Christians.

Why people in Europe don’t know anything about the war in Darfur?

In my opinion media aren’t interested in news from Africa. More important for them is information from Iraq and Darfur isn’t a strategic important country, like the whole Africa.

European Youth Press: Are you interested in the Darfur conflict?

Karin from Holland: I don’t know much about this conflict. If the media covered more about it, I think, more people would be interested and would discuss this problem.

European Youth Press: What do you know about conflict in Darfur?

Michael: There were a lot of troops in this region and there were problems in the neighbor countries too. Humanity organizations can’t help, because the Chinese Republic is blockading the work in the United Nations. Probably China has got its own interests in Darfur.

European Youth Press: Why nobody in Europe is interested in Darfur civil war?

Dorris: Because there aren’t any reports in the press about it. The world doesn’t take any notice of it.

European Youth Press: What Darfur conflict mean to you?

Rita: I didn´t hear about it. I watch the news at television every evening and there is nothing about Darfur. Normally I´m up to date.

Why media doesn´t inform about it?

There are too much topics and too much problems in the world, so for the media, it isn´t interesting any more. Even one new war is one too much.
