30 September 2005
12 cartoons are first published in the Danish newspaper Jyllandsposten.
17 October 2005
The cartoons are republished in a major Egyptian newspaper.
25 January 2006
The cartoons are republished again in Jyllandsposten.
1 February 2006
The cartoons are republished worldwide to support the Freedom of Press. This was a response to the violent demonstrations in the Middle East against Denmark and other countries where the cartoons had been published.
Beginning of February 2006
The demonstrations become even more violent and one of the Danish embassies is burnt down.
9 February 2006
Jyllandsposten apologises, but not for the publication or creation of the cartoons but for the reactions they caused in the Muslim world.
